Charleston, South Carolina – Developer Patrick Pozzuto, creator of iScape, the popular virtual landscaping app for iOS and Android devices, is today proud to announce that he has been selected for the Harbor Accelerator. The Charleston, South Carolina-based startup business accelerator program was designed to help local entrepreneurs succeed in their chosen field, while also enhancing the business environment for the Charleston area.
Patrick, whose original background was in the construction and landscaping businesses, always had a passion for technology. “I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 15 years old. But considering my background was in construction and landscaping, it was a bit of a struggle for me when I first became interested in developing apps,” explained Patrick. “But, after many late nights researching and learning, and doing what needed to be done, I finally began to get the swing of things. Then, I began to work on my dream app.”
Pozzuto’s brainchild turned into iScape, a virtual landscaping app for iOS and Android devices that allows anyone to virtually plan their landscaping. iScape’s innovative technology offers an easy way to create and view any landscaping vision before the first bush is planted, or the first dollar is spent. iScape currently has 700,000 users worldwide, but Pozzuto thinks it can be much bigger than that, noting that around 90 million homes participate in Do-it-Yourself Gardening every year.
As a contractor, Patrick knew there had to be a better way for homeowners to be able to envision what their landscaping would look like. “There’s gotta be an app like this for the homeowner,” Patrick told a WCBD 2 TV news reporter during a recent interview. “You know, I knew there was landscape design software out there, but most for thousands of dollars and some very complicated to use.”
Using their device’s built-in camera, anyone can take a photo of the area they wish to landscape. Then, using iScape’s built-in editing tools and handy gardening and landscaping item library, they can add or replace ground cover, including grass, mulch, paving and more. They can also add flowers, trees, bushes, walkways, water features, walls, decks and pools to the virtual landscape with just a few taps of the screen.
Pozzuto is excited about being selected to take part in the program. “It’s been an absolute honor to be a part of the Harbor Accelerator and I’m very appreciative that I was selected. The other companies that are in the accelerator with me are really unique as well, and I see a lot potential in each and every one of them,” enthuses Patrick. “John Osbourne, the founder of the Harbor Accelerator, has been a great mentor to say the least. You can see that he really cares and wants nothing but success for all of us.”
The 14-week program is designed to offer participants an introduction to high-impact business concepts, as well as give them exposure to a curriculum led by successful entrepreneurs. At the end of the program, the startups know exactly what is needed to take the next step.
“It’s really great that Charleston is starting to provide support for the tech community. I’m extremely confident that iScape is going to contribute greatly to putting Charleston on the map in the tech world, alongside many other local startups that are on the rise,” shares Patrick. “Sometimes it takes a little longer than you anticipate, but if you stick with it and overcome the difficult times, you will eventually start tasting success.”
