Stargard Szczecinski, Poland – Anawiki Games has announced the release of Arizona Rose and the Pirate’s Riddles on the Mac App Store. The game saw its general release last year, and was a hit with casual fans everywhere for its addictive puzzles and compelling story; this new distribution channel now makes it easier than ever for Mac users to get in on the adventure.

The game is free to try on the App Store, and is also available through the developer’s site. Mac App Store version requires OS X version 10.7.5 or higher and version on the developers site requires OS X 10.6 or higher.

“Arizona Rose is my personal favorite of the characters we’ve invented in our games, and it seems like the fans agree,” says Roman Budzowski, Anawiki owner and lead developer, “She starts off as a reluctant hero, just an antique collector looking for something interesting, and gradually turns into this confident, adventuresome treasure-seeker.”

Challenged by a rich patron to find something truly unique to display at an antiques show, Arizona is rummaging around junk shops in Guatemala when she discovers some ancient, encoded maps which kick off her adventure. As she cracks the codes and unravels the mystery, the maps lead her on an adventure of proportions she never could have imagined.

The meat of the game is its puzzles, which are of the “Pic-a-Pix” variety; the player is given a grid with clue numbers marked beside its rows and columns. These numbers indicate the blocks of filled tiles to be found there. Using these clues and their own logical abilities, the player must determine which tiles are filled and which are empty, revealing a hidden image in the process.

This simple, addictive gameplay is supplemented both by the game’s compelling storyline and by a number of minigames, including both hidden object scenes and geometrical puzzles. Within each stage, there are also bonus items to unlock, granting the player additional powers to help solve the game’s challenging puzzles.

“The feedback we’ve received from fans has been very positive,” says Budzowski, “so we’ve got a sequel in the works for next year. In the meantime, we want to get the original out to as many players as possible, so we’re really happy to have gotten the game onto the App Store. Pic-a-Pix is a great puzzle format, and one that’s under-served in the casual games space.”

The game features 200 levels over the course of 11 stages, 5 power-ups and 8 minigame scenes, as well as gorgeously painted backgrounds, high-quality voice acting and an exciting story. Arizona Rose was Anawiki’s first Pic-a-Pix title, followed by the recently-released Mystery Riddles.
