Reston, Virginia – Software and Computer Systems Company, LLC, (SCSC) has released a major update to their product, Performance Probe for the Mac OS X Operating System. Performance Probe is an operating system tool that allows users to monitor the overall effective loading of their systems while in use. The new version has added dynamic monitoring of system memory, drive space, and several virtual machine parameters. This new version includes the fully featured version of Performance Probe as well as a miniature version of the product called “Performance Probe Mini.” Both products feature dynamic icons that can indicate when a system is heavily loaded even when the application is minimized.
“We’ve had several minor upgrades to Performance Probe since it was initially released, but this is a fairly significant set of changes,” stated Bill Wagner, the company owner. “Initially, we had just Performance Probe, then added Performance Probe Mini, then added dynamic icons. With this release the full sized version of Performance Probe and Performance Probe Mini split. Performance Probe, the full sized version of the product, now includes dynamic memory monitoring, dynamic reporting on drive space use, as well as providing virtual machine information to users. We think this greatly improves Performance Probe because not only will a user be able to see load levels a system is experiencing by looking at the probe indicators, they can actually watch other critical virtual machine parameters, like the page outs and amount of swap space being used by the system change in real time. Heavy loads will stand out like a sore thumb!”
“Both products have had their user interfaces improved. Functionally, Performance Probe Mini is the same product it was before this release, it just looks better. The full sized version of the product now includes pie charts for memory and drive space use, and a small table that reports on page outs, page out changes, swap size, and swap size changes, as well as the size of a sleep image, if one is present. All of these parameters are updated dynamically when probing is activated with the product. We were really happy with the results we were getting from the timing probes both products use, but now what’s being reported is even better.”
SCSC has indicated that this new version is designated as version 1.2.0.0. It is included at no charge with their products Scannerz with FSE and Scannerz with FSE-Lite. Performance Probe may be obtained as a standalone product as well. All current users of Performance Probe, whether they obtained the product as a standalone product or in one of the Scannerz packages will be able to obtain the updated version at no cost within a few days.

Software and Computer Systems Company, LLC (SCSC) was formed in 2005. It is legally licensed to do business as a limited liability company in accordance with the laws of the State of Virginia.
