Ottawa, Canada – Project Build today is proud the announce the release of CocoaNotes 1.0 for Mac OS X. CocoaNotes is a multi platform rich text editor that stores and manages notes in folders, leveraging iCloud’s preferred document based synchronization technology. Store all notes and folders using iCloud and access them on all your Apple devices, or choose to store notes only on one device without iCloud. CocoaNotes allows users to style documents using formats, which are also synced over iCloud.

iCloud:
CocoaNotes uses Apple’s iCloud document-based synchronization. Automatically synchronize your notes, folders and formats between all your devices. CocoaNotes supports Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Folders:
Manage notes in a tree-like fashion that makes sense. Rearrange folders and watch as the order is reflected on other devices using iCloud. Choose from 8 different folder colours that help identify content.

Formatting:
Change fonts and colours using text styles. Default text styles can be updated and added on Mac and are synchronized to iPhone and iPad using iCloud. Formatting capabilities will be improved on both platforms in future versions.

Under the hood:
CocoaNotes deals with some interesting headaches iCloud developers are currently faced with. Folders in a document based iCloud application simply isn’t available through Apple’s convenient NSDocument/UIDocument APIs, thus developers lean toward Core Data iCloud synchronization which has led to many non-preferred outcomes. CocoaNotes uses a similar technique to NSDocument/UIDocument, while also enabling folders. Notes are simply stored as RTFD files in an iCloud ubiquity container. CocoaNotes is built from the ground up using Apple’s latest APIs and packs powerful rich text editing features. CocoaNotes will be capable of much more as the product evolves.

* Choose to use iCloud or not
