Background information is provided for each tool and several included helpful how-to’s, guides and demo videos.
NetworkToolbox provides various scanning options such as network IP scanning and port scanning. The app integrates the SHODAN scan engine, which will search for computers and devices on the Internet rather than websites. In addition to SHODAN, NetworkToolbox also includes its own Morpheus scan, which scans the Internet 24/7 around the world and collects information from several million devices every second.
Scan results can be further analyzed by opening IP addresses or ports with NetworkToolbox. Users can connect and inspect their networks for cyber attack vulnerabilities by using one of the many tools available in NetworkToolbox, such as:
* Socket analysis for Telnet, FTP, HTTP, POP3, and IMAP
* FTP Client
* SSH Client
* SFTP Client
* HTTP Browser with source display, login and traversal analysis
* WEB Spider
“Network Toolbox for iOS is well-designed and really turns an iOS device into a networking toolkit,” says Samara Lynn of PC Magazine. “It’s a one-stop, central console for many of the classic networking tools and utilities that have been around for quite some time. Not only is Network Toolbox for iOS chock full of networking utilities that can help analyze and troubleshoot a network but it’s a beautiful app and one that is well in-line with Apple’s design aesthetics. Network Toolbox for iOS gets four out of five stars for networking utility software on iOS and an Editors’ Choice for iOS networking apps.” (26 June 2013)
Version 7.1 includes several significant improvements to increase the usability, convenience, and effectiveness of NetworkToolbox. Several tools have broadened their technical analysis abilities. The Device Information tool now provides much more information about the iPhone/iPad (such as sensor information or device IDs) which could get used by third party apps to uniquely identify devices. NetworkToolbox has also been integrated with external apps. Users can now open NetworkToolbox from inside other apps and vice versa.
The update also includes 3 new tools. Apple’s zero configuration protocol, Bonjour, can now be scanned and analyzed by NetworkToolbox. NetworkToolbox can also scan and analyze Apple’s newly introduced iBeacons, as well as any other Bluetooth LE device. To ensure that user’s are visiting secure websites, another new NetworkToolbox tool can analyze and display server certificates in a readable format.
“Due to the recent NSA and GCHQ scandals and the ever-increasing number of hackers attacking networks and servers around the world, it has become even more important than ever before to secure your privacy and networks,” says Marcus Roskosch, owner of Creating Your Apps. “Don’t trust the evil by putting your faith into devices or services that might have built-in backdoors or weak security implementations. NetworkToolbox is the most effective tool for protecting your data and privacy.”
