Westport, Connecticut – Assistive Technology specialist Crick Software has announced the launch of an innovative new accessible keyboard for iPad and iPhone. The SuperKeys Assistive Keyboard has been created to support users who have difficulty targeting small keys; the unique design of SuperKeys gives users just seven large keys to target instead of more than 30 small ones. There are significant benefits for people with low vision too; all the keys are in the standard qwerty layout, and use a large, accessible font.
Keys are grouped into clusters containing up to seven characters. The user taps a cluster to enlarge it, and then chooses a letter from the cluster. Intelligent word prediction and the ability to create customised keyboard shortcuts speed up the writing process.
Crick Software’s developers have used their 20+ years of accessible software expertise to create this unique approach to keyboard accessibility: “Until now the only option for people with physical challenges was switch access; SuperKeys offers a powerful alternative to users with mild to moderate challenges, with only two taps required for each key input.” says the company’s CEO John Crick. “There’s also lots of support built in for the many people who, whether due to a medical condition or simply old age, have real trouble seeing the keys on their device. It has so much potential!”
