Daniel’s Room is the latest in Tiltan Games casual games series. Its a skill based game, with little luck elements. Game concept is loosely based on the familiar match3 system but clever twists to the mechanics of the game turns Daniel’s room into a unique and exciting experience.

Players can create a minimal set of 3 or more toy tiles of the same type by either swapping between tiles of different type over the board, or by entering new tiles from a queue, located to the right of the board. The queue provides the player with a knowledge of what toys are expected to enter next, which allows to plan moves in advance. This is critically important in Daniel’s Room, as in some levels, every move counts. if one makes too many moves or incorrect ones, level targets will not be met. Therefore, the game encourages the plaers to think and plan their moves 3-4-5 steps in advance which characterises a great brain puzzle.

To make things more challenging, when players drop a new tile from the queue to the board, another tile will be added by the game, to add certain randomness to the game. However, the added tile type does not change when replaying a level. The queue tile and the one added by the game are paired in advance and are constant in each level. Even if players fail to clear a certain level once, they now know in advance not only the visible queue pieces but also the ones expected to come from the game.

Unlike other match3 based games, a player can create the set of 3 toy tiles not only in a strait line either vertical or horizontal, but in any shape. As long as there is a similar tile to one of its four sides, a tile is considered part of a single set. Sets are immediately identified by the system and then consumed if they are 3 or more strong, scoring points in the process.

Accepting these complex shapes allows players to make clever placements in advance in order to create a cascading effect when clearing sets, which significantly increses level score. The first cleared set will provide a basic score (3 points for 3 tiles). However, if a player immediately clears another set, score is multipled with the previous set score by a certain factor. Repeating that will multiply the previous score again with the new one thus creating a cascade effect, which can lead to huge scores for a single set. Some levels will require to create 5 or 6 consecutive sets to clear the level. Planning ahead is well advised.

In each level, players need to clear all the white backgrounds over the cells by clearing sets of 3 or more toy tiles. in later game stages, it is not enough to remove any type of toys, as they need to place a specific toy on certain cells backgrounds. These cell backgrounds are imprinted with the required type to place over.

Additionally, in each level plaers are required to meet additional goals. Initially one and in later stages two or even three different goals at once. Targets varies from earning a minimum number of gold coins, completing a level in a certain time limit or finishing the level with a limited number of moves.

To allow players with different skill level to enjoy the game, the player can set the difficulty level of the puzzle board via the settings menu. Easier mode provides more lenient goals but scores are lowered as well. The harder setting will create harsher targets but clearing a set will score higher than the standard difficulty level.

Daniel’s Room provides a global ranking system to measure a player success against others. Advancing in rank is achieved by completing levels and scoring as much gold as possible in each level. Ranking also impacts scoring during a level, so when a player is ranked high, each set of toys cleared will score higher.

The gold collected during play can be spent on acquiring new toys to decorate the player room. A lovely looking play room is available which the player can fill with various toys. 28 toys are available on this version, from baby toys and dolls to more grownup kids toys, such as football, posters, robot, space shuttle and even a turtle or a parrot.

Daniel’s Room offers a very convenient method to share and challenge friends on facebook. The game also provide a very thorough tutorial on both the room controls and the puzzle mechanics, which ease new players entry to the game.
