Mallow, Ireland – The march of technology continues unabated with potential game changing market entries such as the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch and of course Google Glass.
But the product range truly extends from the sublime to the ridiculous with items such as the Smart Sock (analyses running), Solar Jackets (charges your smart phone), a Smart Mask (measure and share pollution levels) and even an Intimacy Dress, which becomes translucent if it detects you’re “in the mood”.
But it’s important to remember that most of the technologies employed by these products (excluding the intimacy dress!) are already available on your smart phone.
The Reality Guitar app is a mark of future products that will tap into the wealth of technology available on our smart phones, where they will respond as easily to “Sight and Sound” as they do to the typed word.
Reality Guitar for iPhone can analyse vision in real time. It can look at your guitar and show you the chords or scales as if they were hovering above your fret board.
Even if not pointed at your fret board – it works as an awesome reference app with over 450 chord shapes, guitar scales in all twelve keys and can map out your guitar notes for you.
It uses screen touch to let you to tap or swipe to see other versions of the selected chord and by holding your finger on the screen you can switch from finger positions or notes display. Watch animated guitar scales step through the play sequence showing the root and blues notes, with one touch all the scale notes are visible.
The app is also packed with helpful hints and options such as Left or Right hand fret board display.
The developers, Caird Logic hold the following view, “We will soon live in a world where devices will independently tutor or monitor scenarios such as working with our children through their difficult math homework, automatically recognising customers at a checkout desk or remote patient monitoring.
Our Reality Guitar iPhone app represents a significant step in real time video analysis; our R&D in this area lays down a fundamental building block to expand into the technology void in the wake of Google Glass”
This product comes from a start-up company in Cork, Ireland, dedicated to making smart phones smarter. Caird Logic LTD is heavily ensconced in the R&D of vision and sound recognition on mobile devices and its first offering is this Guitar app that will recognize a guitar fret board using your iPhone video
If the predictions are correct and Google Glass fundamentally changes the way we interact with the world around us, then the same technologies, automatic Vision and Sound recognition will become more prevalent on other devices like smart phones / tablets and later on dedicated hardware. These devices will have the ability to make independent, real time decisions and take immediate action based on what they see or hear.
Google Glass may become the ubiquitous product of the modern era (the wearers have already been dubbed “Glassholes ” ) but many of its intended uses are already just one app away on your iPhone.
