Wellington, Florida – The National Association for Child Development (NACD) and Blue Whale Apps announced today the release of the first in a series of Cognition Coach apps. The app follows the same easy to use and successful format of previous NACD Home Speech Therapist – Apraxia apps.

The Cognition Coach app establishes the foundation for children who are neurodevelopmentally functioning at the level of a six-month old to a neuro-typical three year old. This app takes children from the basics of learning how to identify pictures to sequentially processing up to three objects. Cognition Coach is designed to jump-start children by building sequential processing skills, the building blocks for developing short term and working memory.

“What makes this app so powerful is it places in the hands of parents, educators, and therapists a simple, fun tool that through its six levels can be used to build invaluable basic cognitive skills for both neuro-typical children and the full range of special needs children as well,” said Bob Doman, the Director of The National Association for Child Development.

“NACD designed this app on the heels of our very successful NACD Home Speech Therapist apps, knowing that the foundation for language development is cognition. Parents and therapists alike must understand that language development is largely a reflection of cognitive development,” said Lori Riggs, Speech-Language Pathologist at NACD.

Whether a parent is teaching a child to identify first pictures, or a therapist is teaching a child how to distinguish between two items, or an educator is teaching a child how to process a sequence of up to three items, the six levels of this app can facilitate it all. NACD’s international work with typical and special needs children identified a need for such a tool and the resulting app is filling that important role for parents, educators, and therapists alike. The app also provides tracking for multiple children.

Cognition Coach is designed to be used one-on-one by parents as an interactive and fun part of a child’s day or as a tool for educators and therapists in formal sessions. Adults using the app with the child are an integral part of the educational process, providing guidance and reinforcement. Multiple short sessions, which are exciting, rewarding, and fun, used over time produce the required frequency, intensity, and duration to significantly impact a toddler’s developing brain.

Leading experts know and parents find out more every day, the power of the iPad and other interactive touch devices are extremely effective when used by the parent and therapist.

“NACD’s programs have changed the lives of tens of thousands of children from around the world. Cognition Coach needs to be in the hands of every parent with a child under three. We are proud to have helped create this latest NACD tool,” said Gregg Weiss, CEO of Blue Whale Apps.
