Yokohama, Japan – bluejava today announced an enhancement to their popular web app and iTunes alternative, AppSearch.pw. Released in October 2013, the app has helped consumers to search for and discover the apps they want to use while bypassing the need to use the sprawling iTune’s interface, often criticized for its unintuitive interface, which makes it hard to share links, bookmark pages or even open multiple windows.
The enhancement bans iPhone/iPad apps which are deemed to be scams from the AppSearch.pw interface, effectively blocking them from users browsing the app store — in contrast with iTunes, where many of these fraudulent apps are still online and taking money from them. Two of the most popular scam methods are:
* Apps with lots of ads and/or in-app purchases, costing as much as $50 or $100 each.
* Charging for an app that simply does not work upon delivery (nor was it ever intended to)
Currently the AppSearch.pw “scam app” database lists over 1500 apps which are now blocked. This list is set to grow, and users of AppSearch.pw can report and recommend apps to be added to the list.
bluejava has compiled a list of ways that iTunes users can protect themselves from unscrupulous scam artists and keep their devices – and money – safe. However, as company director Glenn Crownover states, “the easiest way to avoid being scammed on iTunes is to bypass it completely by using AppSearch.pw”.
