Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – DEVONtechnologies today is proud to announce version 3.9.6 of its internet search and research tool DEVONagent as well as version 1.9 of its smart desktop assistant DEVONsphere Express. DEVONagent gets support for StartPage, better connectivity to DEVONthink, and workflow enhancements. DEVONsphere 1.9 supports new file formats and received a revised results list. All updates are free and recommended to all users.

DEVONagent 3.9.6 adds two new search plugins in all three editions: StartPage and searching for PDFs with Google. StartPage is a privacy-focused search engine that uses results from Google but prevents the filter bubble by not disclosing the user’s identity. Other plugins for common search engines such as DuckDuckGo or PubMed have been improved as well.

The interoperability with DEVONthink – key for a smooth research workflow – received attention in this update, too. DEVONagent Pro 3.9.6 allows to set a destination group when automatically filing found results to databases. Users can send pages as HTML-based formatted notes or Markdown files to DEVONthink. And a new plugin for DEVONagent Pro scans all bookmarks in open DEVONthink databases. Researchers can so run searches unattented, file the results in their research database, and even re-scan important websites with just a few clicks.

Searching the internal archive of DEVONagent Pro returns more comprehensive results. It’s easier to switch between different views, web views can be zoomed with gestures, and tabs receive a contextual menu. DEVONagent Pro and Express better handle dates, e.g. missing dates or dates in a wrong format, and refine support for Google Chrome bookmarks.

DEVONsphere Express 1.9 adds support for new file formats, namely Adobe InDesign, OmniOutliner 5 (flat), Fountain, and .mp3u8 playlists. It also searches DEVONthink Personal if available. An improved results list lets the user more easily hide and show categories. Like DEVONagent, DEVONsphere Express returns more complete search results, and the See Also function supports source URLs now as well as much longer text selections. Version1.9 launches smoother than previous versions and indexes Finder/Spotlight comments much faster.

DEVONagent is a smart internet search agent. It queries search engines and crawls web sites. It then filters the results again and presents the results in a multitude of ways. DEVONagent is available in three editions from Pro for serious research to Lite for the casual search from the menu bar. DEVONsphere Express is a menulet that keeps track of documents, email messages, and web pages. It discovers the hidden connection between them and presents them focused on whatever the user is currently working on.

All editions of DEVONagent as well as DEVONsphere Express require OS X Mavericks or later. They can be downloaded from DEVONtechnologies online and be test-driven for free before they need to be properly licensed. All applications are also available in the App Store; DEVONagent Pro and Express can be bought as part of attractive bundles with DEVONthink in DEVONtechnologies’ online shop. DEVONsphere Express is available in bundles with DEVONagent Express and/or DEVONthink Personal, too.
