Hollywood, California – The Los Angeles Creative Pro User Group (lacpug) have announced that legendary film editor Arthur Schmidt will appear at lacpug, Wednesday November 19, 2014 at the Gallery Theatre, Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood, CA. beginning at 6:45PM.
Schmidt is best known for editing many of Robert Zemeckis’s films, including all three Back To The Future films, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, Contact, What Lies Beneath and Cast Away. He has won two Academy Awards for best film editing, several Eddie Awards and has been nominated many times for BAFTA awards. In addition to the Zemeckis films, Schmidt has edited Coal Miners Daughter, Ruthless People, Last of the Mohicans, Primary Colors, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Jericho Mile and many others. Schmidt received the 2009 American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award, which was presented to him by Robert Zemeckis.
“We are so honored to have Arthur Schmidt appear at lacpug,” says Michael Horton, the current head of the User Group. “This is one of cinema’s greatest picture editors who has worked on some of the greatest movies ever made. It’s a rare opportunity for us to get up close and personal with Arthur and we are very grateful he has accepted our invitation.”
Schmidt will discuss his storied career by using examples of his work. “We hope to show lots of clips.” says Horton. “The only way to really understand how an editor works is to look at a scene and then talk about it. Afterwards we will give the audience ample opportunity to ask questions. It’s going to be a great night”
The doors to the Gallery Theatre will open at 6:00PM for networking, and then a Q&A session called “Stump The Gurus” will begin at 6:45PM. This is a chance for all filmmakers to get all their problems solved with any editing system they are currently using. Schmidt is scheduled to appear on the stage at about 7:30PM.
Registration for this event is free, but you will be asked for a donation of $5.00 (USD) at the door. For more information as well as a link to where to register, go to the lacpug web site.
