Warzburg, Germany – Indie developer Matthias Schonder today is pleased to announce immages 1.5 for iOS, an update to his innovative photo app that provides a nearly endless stream of content from the user’s favorite photography and design websites. With advanced pre-fetch and caching, users can scroll through individually displayed photos as fast as they like, with no waiting. The app features photo downloading/sharing, favorites, and native website view, and it streams the best of FFFFound, Flickr, Tumblr, 500px, and Dribbble. The current update includes even faster Image Loading, a new Sharing View, and Copy to the Pasteboard.

With more than 100 billion photos posted on image hosting and microblogging sites worldwide, sampling only the best can be a challenge. Many sites have special sections, where the most popular or highly rated photos can be viewed. For example, Flickr has created a proprietary algorithm for selecting photos for its Flickr Interestingness collection of photos. According to Flickr, “There are lots of things that make a photo ‘interesting’ (or not) in the Flickr. Where the clickthroughs are coming from; who comments on it and when; who marks it as a favorite; its tags and many more things which are constantly changing. Interestingness changes over time, as more and more fantastic photos and stories are added to Flickr.” Similarly, other sites have put selected photos in their special collections.

immages operates in portrait orientation and displays photos individually on a dark gray background, free of any text. Users can scroll horizontally, forward and backward, with no delay caused by the downloading process. For full details about any photo, they can touch a button, opening the app’s built-in browser, which displays the photo on its native website page. Users can continue viewing more work of that photographer or return to browsing, without ever leaving the app. Another button opens a Sharing Window, with integrated Twitter, Facebook, and email connectivity. A Download button automatically saves the photo to the Photoalbum.
