Zurich, Switzerland – Nerves, the Zurich based creative agency behind the popular text-only social network Boldomatic, today is pleased to release Healthly, a new mobile app to help you journal about your health. Healthly is an open canvas for all your thoughts about your health. Whether to keep a personal record of sporadic physical injuries, to track daily diet, or to journal about migraines, everyone can find a way to fit Healthly into their daily, weekly, or monthly lives. No health event is too small or too insignificant.

Healthly is a personal health journal for the iPhone. Journal entries consist of freeform-text and images, and are accompanied by visual badges that are automatically generated based on the words that show up in your journal entry. These badges, along with tags and keywords, offer a layer of organization, which allows for efficient filtering of your health journal. You can use this information for your own purposes, for example, to recall personal health details and report them to your physician. You can also share individual entries with a trusted loved one or physician using the app’s built-in export function.

While many health apps focus on a single segment of the population, for example, those suffering from diabetes or obesity, co-creator Sean Summers insists that the app is for everyone. “I use Healthly for my own health,” says Summers, a Postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich with a PhD in artificial intelligence and complex systems. “But I also use it to keep a personal record of my daughter’s health. When she has a reaction to a vaccination or comes down with a cold, I create an entry and tag it. Then when she has a doctor’s appointment, I search for the tag and the entries are right there at my fingertips.”

Furthermore, the app creators made it a priority to keep the app simple and beautiful. Health apps are often clunky and complicated. Healthly, on the other hand, is visually pleasing. The design and color scheme inspire comfort, but also imply importance. Every app function is intuitive and fluid and only a few taps away. The app provides instant visual feedback and satisfaction every time you create a new journal entry.

“We reject the notion that health apps can’t be beautiful and simple in addition to being useful,” says co-creator Raphael Krastev, a partner at Nerves. “We meticulously designed Healthly to inspire and encourage people to share their thoughts about their health.”

Co-creator Dan Krusi emphasizes that Healthly is private and personal. “People are concerned with how their personal data is being used by companies, especially when it comes to their health,” says Krusi, a partner at Nerves. “We are committed to ensuring that user’s health remains private. We give users the exclusive right to control who sees their journal entries. There are no exceptions.”

The app creators envision a bright future for Healthly. They believe it can play a defining role in improving the patient-physician relationship. They also believe that freeform-text journaling can offer a bold addition to form-based medical records.

“Words are powerful, especially when not constrained by structure,” says Summers. “Hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies have historically used medical forms to tell the story of a person’s health. But we believe that a person’s health is so much more than that. We built Healthly to unlock that potential. We built Healthly to give individuals a platform to express their health in their own words.”
