Berkeley, California – Creekcats LLC is today proud to announce the release and immediate availability of Le Menu Dit 2.0, an important update to their English to French menu translator for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. The app is designed to make ordering from a menu written in another language as easy as taking a photo, cropping the photo a bit, and waiting a moment for the translation. The app can translate an entire column of a menu at once, and the results are presented in an easy-to-read typeface, with each line of the original menu immediately followed by its translation, so the traveler can simply point to what they want to order.

“Le Menu Dit” is French for “The Menu Says,” and there is no better way to describe exactly what the app does. Users simply take a photo of the menu, crop as needed, and tap “Translate.” Le Menu Dit immediately handles the translation, resulting in an understandable menu for users to read and order from. While version 1.0 made use of over 36,000 menu-related phrases, version 2.0 includes an additional 1,800 new phrases, as well as an improved translation engine, developed with the assistance of a certified French translator. The app’s improved user interface also now includes a feedback feature, allowing users to offer comments and suggestions directly to the app’s developers.

The idea that became Le Menu Dit originally came to be following a trip to Germany by developer Price and his family. A limited German vocabulary, and no convenient way to translate the menu, led to a less than satisfactory dining experience for the group, and planted the seed for the menu translation app. Upon returning from their trip, Phil and his two friends, Nathan Addy and Yixing (Ethan) Chen, set to work on developing the app. They have worked to improve Le Menu Dit ever since.

“The original version of Le Menu Dit was well received by users, and we were very happy with the initial reception,” says Phil Price, inventor of the app. “Since launch, our users and some reviewers gave us so much useful feedback, that it inspired us to create this update for the app. The new version offers an expanded menu vocabulary, as well as an improved translation engine. We can’t wait to see what our users think of this latest version.”

Why Choose Le Menu Dit?
* The app is designed specifically to make it easy to order from a translated menu: Each line of the menu is followed by its translation, making it easy to figure out which item on the original menu corresponds to the correct item in the translation.
* Reliability. The app works very well on most menus, and gives an acceptable translation on most other menus. The translation is in bold, easy-to-read type.
* No Internet connection is required. Many apps of this type require an Internet connection, or perform poorly if one isn’t available. Le Menu Dit’s translation dictionary is all compactly stored on the device, so it doesn’t require an Internet connection.
* The app’s User interface is designed to be easily understood, so users can easily use it the first time, and every time. Its small learning curve makes it perfect for use by any user.

Le Menu Dit doesn’t attempt to be a jack of all trades type translator, instead it concentrates on doing one thing, and doing it well. The app quickly translates a menu from English to French, and displays the translation in a clear, easy to read way. This makes it easy for anyone to simply point to what they want to order, making for an enjoyable dining experience, no matter the language barrier. Menu translation is merely a matter of point, shoot, crop, and wait a moment for the translation.
