Why Choose MEWShop?
The post-production industry is highly competitive, and knowing the industry standards – Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Avid Media Composer – is a must if you want to be ahead of your peers. MEWShop is the only school in the world to offer all of these applications taught by certified instructors in one comprehensive six-week course. The Six Week Intensive takes students through each program, working on various real-world projects to illustrate the distinct strengths and nuances of each NLE.

Beyond the creative and technical aspects of editing, a portion of the Six Week Intensive Workshop is focused on how to secure a job once the class ends. Students will draft cover letters and resumes, which will be refined over the span of the class. Students and instructors will discuss job applications and interview strategies, as well as how to appropriately set rates and find the right work for their varied unique interests. Furthermore, MEWShop’s Six Week Intensive is the only course of its kind that allows students to choose the footage they want to edit on the platform they prefer.

“They want you to explore whatever aspects of editing/post you want to pursue,” says 2010 MEWShop graduate and former Fellow at AFI, Jeremy Lerman. “The instructors give you enough room to make the work you own, while pushing you enough to keep you improving.”

Students will have their own fully equipped editing stations for the entire six weeks. With an intimate six-to-one student-to-teacher ratio, students will get the individual attention necessary to get the most out of the Six Week Intensive. MEWShop is the place to turn your passion into a life-long profession.

Learn From the Best in Post-Production With MEWShop’s Artist in Residence Program
The Artist in Residence program is a core component of MEWShop’s Six Week Intensive Course. Top film editors join the class to screen and discuss their work. Students also share their edits for comments and critique with the resident artist. MEWShop resident artists have included some of the best in the business. Recent resident artists include Susan Morse, A.C.E. (Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters), Alexander Hall (Treme, True Detective, The Messenger), Jay Rabinowitz, A.C.E. (Requiem for a Dream, I’m Not There), Malcolm Jamieson (Treme, Mad Men, Thor 2: The Dark Age), Peter Frank, A.C.E. (Blue Bloods, Cadillac Records), and David Tedeschi (George Harrison: Living in a Material World, No Direction Home: Bob Dylan).

In addition to the Artist in Residence program, MEWShop’s Six Week Intensive also features leading industry guest lecturers – filmmakers, post-facility owners, and producers – who speak with students on class field trips or in the classroom. Through insight and advice from their professional and personal experiences, these guests all enhance the real world education students receive from MEWShop.

Manhattan Edit Workforce: The Solution to Standing Out in the Industry
MEWShop created Manhattan Edit Workforce with the end goal of securing real world work for each Six Week graduate. The Workforce connects students with MEWShop’s continuously growing network of industry employers. Each student in the Six Week Intensive Workshop completes an editor’s reel. Alongside their reel, students post their resume on a website they create at the end of class. Manhattan Edit Workshop is in constant communication with employers, who are notified of all recent graduates when added to the Workforce site. This allows them to browse through reels and contact students directly. In the past when these companies went to hire, they looked to MEWShop. Now they can go straight to the source – you.

Recent grad Loulwa Khoury, who participated in MEWShop’s course in November 2012, now works as a freelance video editor and an assistant/associate editor on two documentaries. “It’s great,” she says about the course. “If it wasn’t for MEWShop, I wouldn’t have gotten these jobs in the first place.”

Jessica Farmer, assistant editor with NOW Corporation, graduated from the Six Week Intensive Workshop in early 2013. She also gained employment in the industry right out of the course. “Because of the knowledge I gained at the MEWShop Six Week Intensive, I was trusted to take over jobs when senior editors were not available, work with clients and cut my own spots right away,” said Farmer.

Six Week graduates work in all areas of the industry including features, documentaries and television. Alumni have found work at notable companies such as Octopus, Go Robot, Outpost Digital, Hybrid Films, @radical.media, ITV, MTV, VH1, US Open, MLB.com, The NHL Network, Hallmark Channel, NBC Universal and more.
