Cupertino, California – People who want to add some adventure to their day and put the “social” back in social networking, can now download SellanApp’s remarkably unique new app Showups – Detour Your Day and turn like-minded strangers into fun new friends.
Unlike conventional social networking apps that connect people through chat, voice or video, Showups lets users take a picture of themselves, and describe in a Tweet-sized summary where they are, what they’re doing, and who’d they’d like to meet.
Once that’s done, they tap the “Showups” button via their device’s GPS function and up to 10 users within a 1km (.6 mile) radius are invited to get together. If they’re interested, they simply make an appearance in the next few minutes. If they’re not interested, they ignore the invitation and let it automatically delete within 15 minutes, or send it to the trash can.
Throughout the process, users can be assured that their private and confidential information remains that way. There is no sign-up through Facebook or other platform, and no registration is required. Furthermore, each individual Showups invitation is automatically deleted from SellanApp’s servers after 15 minutes.
“Everybody from tweens to senior citizens gaze at a screen for a considerable part of their day, and while they may be communicating with others, it’s usually at a distance,” commented a spokesperson from SellanApp. “Showups is a bit like Facebook but with feet instead of screens.
