Farmingdale, New York – Independent developer Santo Porpiglia today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of MapItOut 11.2, an update to his travel app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. Users can make their travel plans with MapItOut’s online tools to quickly create maps and access them offline.
“Traveling with your iPhone is a breeze with MapItOut,” says James Horton of the Daily App Show. “MapItOut turns your iPhone into a full fledged navigation system with a built-in travel planner. Best of all is that all of the data stays safe and secure on your device, it is not collected in any manner. Make sure to download MapItOut before going on your next trip!” (19 December 2014)

MapItOut prompts the user to begin by entering a city name or address located anywhere in the world and reveals its location in a pinpoint on the map. By selecting Next, users can search for multiple addresses during one session. Users can also research Points of Interest (POI) nearby by tapping the POI button at the top of the interface. POIs are categorically divided into Map Types. They include:
* Golf
* Restaurants
* Bars
* Cafes
* Hotels
* Museums
* Theaters
* Beaches
* Coffee
* Casinos
* Airports
* Movie theaters
* Parking
When a Map Type is selected, markers display each of the POIs in the area. The markers show a description and the address of the POI. By tapping the Information button on the POI marker, MapItOut will display a satellite image of the POI and offer the option to further research the POI online, add it to the calendar, save and share it, or get directions to it.
Once the map is saved, MapItOut can generate directions within it using Apple Maps from the user’s current location. Users can select to receive directions for walking, travel, route, or driving and save them. Saved maps can be sent through the Connect button and shared on Facebook and Twitter, which can be a useful way of gathering more information on the destination. Maps can be E-mailed or messaged privately or shared through the Bluetooth chat function with another individual.
“MapItOut is a feature rich app for runners, travelers, and map mavens,” says Mel Martin of The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW). “I tried MapItOut on a few destinations and found it easy to use, even though it is loaded with features. It takes a very unique approach to setting up trips and destinations, and I think some other apps could learn from the approach taken here. MapItOut supports driving, walking, cycling and hiking, and I think MapItOut is well worth the money.” (19 Nov 2014)
MapItOut includes several additional unique features to make an effective tool for users. The RunMap feature is designed for individuals who walk, jog, or bike and want to record data from their exercise route. Route can be recorded from either the Save button or through the RunMap button at the bottom of the interface. Once the route is completed, users can view statistical details of the route such as speed, time, distance, and elevation. The stats log can also be displayed in a chart format and shared.
Other unique features of MapItOut are listed under the Save button. After they park their car, users can quickly and conveniently press the Parked option and MapItOut will automatically save the location to the app so the user can easily find their vehicle. There is also easy access to itineraries, weather forecasts, swell reports, and flights or rooms within the next 10 days.
The newest version of MapItOut updated several features to improve functionality. In addition to updating MapItOut locations’ details including the zoom view and sharing options, RunMap statistics can now be reported in either miles or metric units. The RunMap share function also allows the user to forward both the map and statistical chart detailing the route. Additionally, users can either display the music controls or hide them when RunMap is in use.
“MapItOut is the only app you need to plan for your next trip, running route, or travel destination,” says independent developer Santo Porpiglia. “It’s incredibly easy to use and packed full of features to help you get the most out of your trip. MapItOut is also secure since none of your data is ever collected or sold. Turn you iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into a full Navigation system and Travel Planner with MapItOut.”
