San Francisco, California – Wanderful, Inc. has received the prestigious Editor’s Choice Award for its interactive poetry app, The New Kid on the Block, from Children’s Technology Review. The New Kid on the Block is the 14th title, originally published by Living Books, to be enhanced and updated for Apple’s iPad/iPhone and Mac OS X computers by Wanderful.

Children’s Technology Review honored The New Kid on the Block in its January 2014 issue. Their reviews measure ease of use for children, educational value, entertainment value, design features and overall product value. The New Kid App received a rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. The review highlighted the hilarious nature of the poems, suited for children of all ages stating “Prelutsky’s funny poems are especially effective with children, dealing with such things as a dog that is put together wrong and homework blowing up.” They also gave it the highest Educational ranking noting that “every noun identifies itself in animation and every verb does its action, turning this app into a living dictionary.”

“We are thrilled that once again Wanderful has been honored with the Children’s Technology Review Editor’s Choice Award” said Mickey W. Mantle, Chief Executive Officer at Wanderful. We are very pleased to receive our fourth of these wards for The New Kid on the Block, in addition to the awards we previously received for Arthur’s Teacher Trouble, Harry and the Haunted House, and Ruff’s Bone. CTR has also recommended Wanderful’s Tortoise and the Hare app as well.”

Jack Prelutsky, the author of The New Kid on the Block, began writing poetry before we sent men to the moon. Nearly 50 years later, he is delighted to find some of his poems available in this App. While Jack has published over 1,000 poems in about 70 volumes, some of his most loved verses are to be found in The New Kid on the Block. In 2006, the Poetry Foundation designated Jack as the nation’s first Children’s Poet Laureate.

Wanderful’s The New Kid on the Block App is available for $4.99 on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

A premium upgrade is available – $2.99 via In-App Purchase – for the 45 page Classroom Activities guide containing an extensive bibliography and 13 activities to help teachers integrate the App and poetry into their classroom curricula. Aligned with the Common Core State Standards, these 13 activities help students understand poems, poetry, and how to write poems themselves. Two of the activities are included in a Classroom Activities Preview document included with each App.

Wanderful’s The New Kid on the Block App is also available for $9.99 on Mac OS X computers and includes the complete 45 page Classroom Activities guide.
