San Francisco, California – ChangeTip, the industry leader in social tipping and micropayments, launched its much-anticipated mobile app today. The startup’s new app blends the offline and online world together seamlessly by allowing anyone with a phone number, email address, Facebook or Twitter account to send and receive money to and from each other internationally.

Social tipping is the expression of financial appreciation online. In a world where we still necessitate money to sustain ourselves, ChangeTip seeks to make the transfer of this value frictionless, seamless, inexpensive, fast and fun.

The company focuses specifically on the opportunity that micropayments – payments of values $25 USD and less – present to the world in terms of content monetization, social payments, charitable donations, and much, much more.

The ChangeTip Mobile app is another step in this direction. While nation states continue their moves to increasingly cashless societies, humans dependent on the generosity of others (tips) to make a living are being left behind by this digital shift. Furthermore, content producers and creators who live and work online see a large percentage of their income taken by the ads they need to have on their site. Charities and brands are still stuck in a non 21st century model and should take advantage of the power of money + social media to facilitate meaningful social change. Micropayments and social tipping seeks to change both these offline and online experiences.

The new mobile application works on iPhones. Upon opening the app, you are taken to directly to #Tipworthy, an experiment on generosity for content on the web. Users can post directly to the feed by tipping the content themselves. The feed is intended for content you appreciate, not content you create. The feed then appears live and in real time, indicating tips its earning, to all other users. Users can tip quickly with one-click to support content and causes they see in the feed.

A user’s dashboard appears on the bottom of the app, showing them options to send money via Facebook, Twitter, SMS or e-mail, easily. Users can send tips internationally and for free to both friends and strangers alike. Users can also earn money via the “Earn” tab, and create their own financial expressions through monikers. The app is available for free in the Apple app store.

The app can use both bitcoin and USD. Users can acquire both USD and bitcoin directly from the app quickly and easily, and top up their accounts on the go. Instant transfers between bitcoin and USD means users have the choice of which currency to use, and when.

Many ask how this application is different from Venmo. Venmo is only available in the United States, and acts as a walled-garden, forcing users to transfer only using their channel. ChangeTip is available internationally, and allows people to pay via their preferred method: either SMS, e-mail, Facebook or Twitter.

“The future of finance is digital and mobile,” explains Victoria van Eyk, head of community at ChangeTip. “The future of finance is about the transfer of true value between peers, internationally. Value transfer should be fast, inexpensive and fun.”

ChangeTip allows people to express appreciation or pay other individuals or organizations via monetary “tips.” Tips are sent natively within the chosen social media platform and allow users to transact seamlessly in the normal course of their Twitter, Reddit, SoundCloud, and other social media interactions. In this way, ChangeTip represents not only the next level of financial payment infrastructure, but also the next iteration of the Internet of Value.

Utilizing Bitcoin blockchain technology, the company’s platform allows instant transactions between two parties. The company’s product suite includes the Tip.Me widget, which allows any content producer (artist, writer, musician, publication, etc.) to accept tips via the ChangeTip platform.
