Leamington Spa, United Kingdom – Today sees the introduction of Lumo Developments, a newly formed micro-studio based in the UK, which reunites several former members of the multi-award-winning and critically acclaimed Team Lumo (Kumo Lumo, Paper Titans).

Although Lumo Developments is a new name for the games industry, the team behind it are anything but. The developer is one of the first phoenix studios to arise following the collapse of Blitz Games late last year, and is part of a new wave of innovative creative teams and collectives to emerge in the wake of the closure. The start-up has raised investment from the Tesseract Interactive SEIS Service, managed by Daedalus Partners, to support its plans.

All four members of Lumo Developments are professional game developers seeking to create new and exciting experiences for mobile platforms, having worked together in Blitz’s innovative mobile group, Team Lumo.

Team founder Steve Stopps says: “Team Lumo was so special for all of us, and it was sad to think that we would not get to work together again. Our shared passion for innovative and beautiful games ultimately kept us together, and has led to our new game.”

Each team member of Lumo Developments shares the same job title of “Game Maker”; a reflection of their equal contribution to the overall experience. However, for now, the team is remaining tight-lipped about its debut title that is currently in development.

Jonathan Evans, designer of the award winning iOS game, Kumo Lumo, adds: “This is something that we have always dreamed of doing, but seeing those hopeful conversations and crazy plans turn into reality is fantastic. To be working with this team, on a wholly original new game really is a dream come true.”

Artist Nic Williams says: “It is early days for us at the moment, but we do have a clear vision for the game. It is unmistakably ‘Lumo’, but is also a very unique experience.”

The Lumo team is known for its eclectic visual style, drawing influences from diverse sources; and its accessible gameplay suitable for players of all ages and experience. All eyes will be on the team over the coming months to see if it can deliver on its previous achievements, such as successive Apple Editors Choice awards for both Kumo Lumo and Paper Titans.

This pressure is already being felt by the team. “It has been fun so far, but we know we have a challenging year ahead. We want to make a great game for our players,” says programmer Chris Allen.

Lumo Developments first title will be released on mobile devices during Summer 2014. More details on the game will be announced soon.

The four-person team has over 35 years combined experience of making games, but believes it is its passion in combining elements from the fringes of pop-culture that really sets it apart.
