Bath, United Kingdom – Independent iOS software developer, Nathan Randle today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of Sat Seeker 2.0.0, an important update to the popular International Space Station tracking app for iPhone and iPad devices. Since 2012 the popular International Space Station (ISS) tracking app has provided notifications for upcoming passes of the space station to thousands of users. With the ISS ageing and NASA focussing on human missions beyond earth orbit there will come a time when earth-bound sky watchers will no longer be able to enjoy this periodic spectable.

Sat Seeker’s new, free price-point and social sharing features have been developed so that as many people as possible can learn about, enjoy and share this experience while they still have the opportunity over the coming years. Sat Seeker’s developer Nathan Randle commented “Relatively few people are aware that you can regularly watch this incredible spacecraft fly by, often just a few steps outside of your home. I hope these new features and pricing will help to spread the word so that more can find and experience this.”

Visible passes of the ISS occur periodically over most of the Earth but the timings aren’t consistent. Sat Seeker helps users by providing a notification reminder shortly before a pass occurs. The augmented reality view within the app overlays the pass path on the device’s camera so that it’s easy to find where to look. When the weather allows clear skies, watching a visible ISS pass is a special experience where the football-field sized space station appears like a steadily moving very bright star. On occasion, visiting space craft such as the SpaceX Dragon can be also be seen closely following the ISS before berthing.

With recent developments from private spaceflight companies and NASA’s new focus on human missions back to the moon and eventually Mars, there is much to look forward to in this area in the coming years. Sat Seeker’s developer intends to build on Sat Seeker’s foundation to share information from this emerging industry and make space more accessible to everyone.
