Search queries are handled by the app’s powerful server, which returns an elegantly formatted, scrolling list of recipes & photos from 50+ sites, with any listing expandable to a full screen description of ingredients and instructions. The intelligent app delivers recipes that use ingredients currently on hand or that are selected from a library of hundreds of ingredients, inputs pantry contents manually or via barcode scanner, downloads recipe ingredients directly to a shopping list, and syncs the shopping list across devices.

There are many recipe apps for iOS, but Recipe Kitchen has combined the speed, features, and design of the very best to create an app that works so well, users get lost in the process of planning and preparing meals – the iDevice and app having become so transparent as to disappear. At launch, in portrait orientation, the app displays the Recipe Kitchen title bar and Search icon at the top of the screen. The bottom tab bar displays three buttons: Recipes, My Kitchen, and My Account. Filling the screen in between is a scrolling list of recipes.
The scrolling recipe list consists of separate, translucent, gray bars, which contain a thumbnail photo of the dish, its name, and rating. Beneath the list are soft-focus, decorative food photos that dissolve every ten seconds into another photo, creating an appealing motif for both the eyes and taste buds. By default, the app opens with a list of Top Recipes; touching the Search icon lets users enter a text search. For example, entering “Chicken” quickly delivers an appetizing-looking, scrolling list of the 40 highest rated chicken recipes collected from 50+ web sites and blogs. “Roast Chicken” brings up the 40 highest rated roast chicken dishes. Drilling down further, “Wine Roasted Chicken” offers the top 5 recipes available. What makes this scrolling recipe list far more convenient than the typical search-engine result page, is the simplicity of the list: a thumbnail photo, recipe name, and the remarkable Right Arrow button, which almost instantly loads a large photo, serving size, caloric content, and a very easy to read, double spaced, ingredient list. (Onscreen buttons let users Favorite the recipe, saving it to their Recipe Kitchen account; Download the ingredients directly to the shopping list; or Share the recipe via email.) Not exactly right for tonight? Touch the leftward Return Arrow on the title bar to return to the list. Perfect for dinner? Touch the upward View Recipe Arrow on the tab bar, which brings up the actual web page from which the recipe was taken, complete with multiple photos/videos, prep and cook times, nutritional values, reviews, and detailed directions, with each numbered step clearly displayed, specially formatted for mobile devices.
