Boston, Massachusetts – Atlantia Software today unveiled version 1.4 of its audio recorder app SimpleMic, adding support for the Apple Watch in the form of a quick access remote control. The Apple Watch extension, bundled for free with the main SimpleMic app, provides the ability to start and stop recording directly from a user’s wrist. Perfect for situations such as musical performance, lecture, or speech recordings, where the iPhone is placed (and needs to remain) in an ideal acoustic location, potentially steps away from the user. As the recording proceeds, the Apple Watch app displays a flashing indicator similar to that found in the app proper. Finally, and in addition to Apple Watch support, the app now features automatic upload of all recordings to iCloud Drive, making all audio files instantly available on a users desktop Mac or PC without any additional software as well as support for iOS 8 sharing and action extensions.
“Being that the Apple Watch is always on your wrist, it presented the perfect opportunity to enable remote recording controls for SimpleMic”, said app developer and sole proprietor of Atlantia Software Nick Bonatsakis. He added, “I am an avid instrumentalist and vocalist during my non-developer time, and I am constantly in situations where I am standing in the perfect spot relative to my iPhone while trying to capture an audio recording. With the addition of this Apple Watch app, I can now control my recording session without fumbling with my iPhone, it just makes things a whole lot easier.” When asked about future improvements, Bonatsakis replied, “I’d love to be able to allow recording directly from the Apple Watch microphone, but sadly, the WatchKit SDK does not yet allow this. As soon as that ability is available however, I’ll be adding that feature, as I think it would be very cool to be able to capture quick memos and such right from your wrist.”
